All of you who know anything about Deep Freeze, this horrible program is going to be put on my computer Monday, so, could you all reply with any negative effect this program has on a computer? I'm writing a document on the negative effects of the program, and because I'm not that computer literate, I'm asking people who do know about comps. so, I'd appreciate the help. thanks.
Well for deep freeze. It can be good for computers that many people use. But this program makes it so anything you download and install will be removed when you restart. If the person installing deep freeze doesn't make a spot for you to save to, you have to save on disk or CD's. If you save to the hard drive in a spot not made to save in, when you restart it wipes the saved info. Once you set up the computer, any changes that are made are reversed when rebooted. This program makes it hard to screw up the computer, but can be a pain for some. The admin or person who has the code to deep freeze, cause it is password protected, can make changes to the system once it is installed.
We use this program at the one job I am at, cause multiple instructors use one computer, so that each person doesn't have to redo their settings each time, they installed this program so after a reboot, the computer goes back to their pre deep freeze settings. I feel for you if this is your own computer at home, that you use. Just make sure that all of the programs that you use often are installed before you get the computer back. If not the person who set up deep freeze will have to come out and install the programs that you need.
yes i have that on the school comps where i am and my jfw settings keep going back to their defalts. lol. its annoying! lol. but now I run it from my thrumb drive and it works fine. lol.
when I took programming in HIghschool, we had deep freze, and I wanted to kill someone. It is a great program for institutions and such. It just sucks when jaws won't save config files.
if you really really need to use a program and want to keep the settings, try installing it on to a thumb drive, and making a copy of the registry settings. When the computer restarts, restore the registry settings, and Then run the program off the thumb drive. This will probably not work, but it's worth a shot. Then if you know batch scripting, you can make cmd files that automatically replace the jaws configuration files and restore registry settings. lol
Blake good thinking but most of us including me don't know scripting of any type.
